3 Reasons Every Business Needs a Logo

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you own a business but don’t have a logo. Maybe you don’t have a logo because you’re not sure what you want, or maybe you just don’t think logos are that important.

You probably already know that we think logos are pretty important. Ok, REALLY important. But why do we think having a quality business logo matters so much?

A logo puts a face to your name.

Have you ever seen a completely white airplane flying above you? We’re guessing you haven’t, because we haven’t either. Instead, we see airplanes and immediately identify them as American, Southwest, etc. If you don’t have a logo for your business, you’re essentially flying a plane with no identity. People can see you working but they’re not sure who you are or how to identify you. A logo gives your company a face for people to recognize and refer back to.

Along with that face comes a personality. Your logo communicates the character of your company through color, styling, font choices, and more. Is your business modern or traditional, approachable or exclusive, peppy or serious? Your logo should instantly communicate what your business is like. It allows people to take one glance at your business card, website, or other print material and instantly decide whether or not they want to be connected with your brand.

A logo makes you memorable.

A logo is often the first impression people get of your business; even more, people tend to remember visuals more than a written name. Your logo gives people a visual to associate your business with. If they forget your name and try googling “coffee shop in San Francisco,” they’re more likely to recognize you by your unique logo.

On the flip side, not having a logo makes you easier to forget. Don’t be “just another” coffee shop or day care that’s easy to forget about. Invest in a logo so good that customers can’t forget you.

A (good) logo sets you apart from competitors.

Think about the brands with the most iconic logos (Nike, Starbucks, McDonald’s); they have poured thousands of hours and dollars into creating strong, memorable brands. You see those brands and want to be associated with them. Their logos have added to their credibility, which has increased their competitive edge. Similarly, having a unique logo of your own can set you apart from your competitors.

People judge companies by their logos. If you own a burger joint that’s better than the one down the street, but the other one has a logo or a better logo, you can bet that people will likely try that other place first. Sure, they might try your place eventually, but why let something like no logo keep customers away from the beginning? A professional logo can help you be the business that people instinctively choose over the rest. Additionally, putting a lot of thought and care into your logo subconsciously shows customers that you put the same level of care into your product or service.
